Caguas, Puerto Rico – Singer Nydia Caro will explore her dual Christmas traditions – those of her childhood in New York adn her adopted Puerto Rican heritage – in a special concert, ”My Two Christmases,” on Sunday, November 16, at 4:00 pm at the Moneró Café Teatro & Bar within the Caguas Fine Arts Centre (BAC).
Caro, known as “Muñeca de los Ojos Brujos” and the 1974 OTI Festival winner for “Today I sing for the sake of singing,” has never released a Christmas album in her 50+ year career. The concert will feature a repertoire of classic Christmas songs in both English and Spanish, alongside some of her popular hits.
“Christmas here is very long and I love it. I also love many of the North American traditions. So my Christmas is a mix,” Caro stated. She recalled early Christmases marked by “immense winter cold in New York” and a Christmas manger near a fireplace, contrasted with the “family value and Christmas celebration of the Puerto Ricans” she embraced after settling on the island.
the concert will be directed by Jorge Laboy and is intended to be an intimate performance. Tickets are available for purchase at Ticketera.
