Singer Recounts Terrifying Health Scare with Partner
Partner’s Mysterious Illness Prompts Songwriting and Loss of Confidence in Medical Care
Singer Bente has shared a deeply personal account of her partner Sam‘s severe illness, an experience that profoundly impacted her and inspired her to write a song. The health crisis began shortly after what she described as a “dream holiday” in Bali.
A Desperate Battle for Diagnosis
Upon returning from Bali, Sam began suffering from an intense headache that progressively worsened, eventually making it impossible for him to eat. Bente emphasized that Sam is not one to complain, highlighting the severity of his symptoms.
Despite multiple visits to the doctor, Sam was repeatedly advised to simply manage his pain with paracetamol. Bente found these recommendations inadequate, stating, “I had no confidence in that doctor anymore.” She recalled a previous instance where Sam had been sent home with an appendicitis infection, fueling her distrust.
Hospitalization and Autoimmune Diagnosis
Sam‘s condition escalated to the point where he lost his vision, necessitating immediate hospitalization. He remained in the hospital for two weeks as medical professionals worked to identify the cause of his ailments.
The underlying issue was eventually diagnosed as an autoimmune disease. While a bacterial infection possibly contracted during their vacation was ruled out, the period brought immense uncertainty for Bente.
Living with the Fear of Loss
Reflecting on this challenging time, Bente described it as “one of the rotten periods” in her life. The constant fear of losing Sam weighed heavily on her, even as she found relief that he ultimately recovered.
“If you love someone a lot, you don’t want the person to die.”

Recently, Bente saw photographs of Sam from that time, noting how much he had deteriorated. The memory serves as a stark reminder of the ordeal they faced.
Past Struggles Revealed
Earlier this year, Bente also disclosed on the program *Open Casa* that she had previously battled kleptomania, confessing to stealing significant amounts of food and clothing.
