Regency Specialist Hospital remains the sole medical facility in Johor Bahru participating in Singapore’s overseas MediSave scheme, operating alongside Mahkota Medical Centre in Malacca. Established in March 2010 by the Ministry of Health, the scheme allows Singapore citizens and permanent residents to deploy their MediSave balances toward elective hospitalizations and day surgeries at accredited foreign facilities. “The entire treatment cost is not just a procedure price, but it consists of consultation, pre-op test, the procedure itself, hospital stay, anaesthetist, specialist fees, medication, and follow-up visits, or even complications,” Hoan stated, emphasizing the need to compare total expenditures rather than isolated procedure rates. Hoan also advises patients to calculate secondary expenses, including cross-border accommodation, lost work hours, and the limitations of insurance structures. Most MediShield Life policies and Integrated Shield Plans exclude overseas private treatment, meaning lower procedure fees across the Causeway may require full self-payment rather than standard local copayments. Consequently, financial experts suggest that planned, lower-complexity procedures involving minimal follow-up care represent the most viable financial model for cross-border patients.

Regency Specialist Hospital plans to expand its medical service offerings in anticipation of heightened patient influxes.
