Signal Festival opened in Prague with digital installations
The fourteenth edition of the Signal Festival opened in Prague on October 15, 2026, featuring 21 digital and light installations split between free public routes and ticketed indoor venues. Running through October 18, the annual festival brings contemporary art to city streets, with admission for the paid Signal INSIDE section starting at 490 CZK, as reported by Seznam Zprávy.
Two Routes Across Prague Featuring 21 Installations
This year’s festival spans two main districts, offering 13 free installations outdoors alongside eight ticketed indoor exhibits. According to Novinky, the public route in the center features four installations, while a newly added route in Dejvice and Bubeneč hosts nine more. Visitors exploring the central district encounter works on náměstí Republiky and the courtyard of the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, while the Dejvice track stretches from the Troja-Podbaba canal through the Stará čistírna odpadních vod to the Kampus Dejvice.
Magistrát hlavního města Prahy recommended that visitors use public transit, specifically the metro, and avoid driving into the city center between 19:00 and 21:00, according to iROZHLAS. The municipal authority noted that traffic restrictions accompany the weekend event, and organizers, security services and traffic coordinators monitor the visitors.
Artists Project Digital Works on Historic Landmarks
The historic center features a free videomapping projection on the Old Town Hall tower created by Ukrainian artist Svitlana Reinish, titled Život v pravdě (Life in Truth). Novinky reported that Reinish’s work marks the first videomapping created by a woman in the history of the Signal Festival, drawing inspiration from Václav Havel’s essay The Power of the Powerless.
In Dejvice, German digital artist Felix Frank transformed the facade of the Archbishop’s Seminary into a black-and-white optical illusion named Missing Interval. Frank spent roughly three months preparing the projection, utilizing a 3D model provided by festival organizers to map the building’s architectural features without color distraction.
Indoor Exhibits Require Visitors to Surrender Electronic Devices
The ticketed Signal INSIDE section requires visitors to surrender mobile phones and smartwatches at the entrance of selected indoor exhibits, such as the Jízdárna Savarin on Na Příkopě street, to maintain total darkness. Additional indoor highlights include an installation in the Mirror Chapel of Klementinum, alongside an interactive sound robot by Slovak artist Ján Šicko located in Kampus Hybernská, as noted by Novinky.
The festival program also incorporates local academic institutions and historic venues. Meanwhile, the Stará čistírna odpadních vod hosts an aerial acrobatics performance by Laterna magika accompanied by singer Marie April, the reigning Anděl Award winner for Discovery of the Year.
