Castlerea, Co. Roscommon – Sheila (Celia) Callaghan née rogers, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2025, at the Plunkett Community Nursing Home in Boyle, surrounded by her family. She was 87 years old.
Her death marks a loss for the close-knit communities of Boho and Ballintubber, where she lived and raised her family. Sheila’s passing follows that of her husband, Austin, her sister Patricia mcginty, and her brother Tom. she is survived by her sons, John (Boho) and Austin (Claremorris), daughters Katherine (Knockcroghery) and Julie (Atlanta, USA), grandchildren Clíona and Seán, and a wide circle of family and friends. Funeral arrangements have been made to allow those wishing to pay their respects to do so.
Sheila will be fondly remembered by her sons, John and Austin, her daughters Katherine and Julie, her daughter-in-law Peggy, Katherine’s partner Edward, and Julie’s partner Marshall. She is also survived by her sisters, Peg Dobey (Lisalway), Dell Verney (Florida), and Catherine Flanagan (Knockalaghta), and also her brothers John (Emlagh) and Jim (Mohill), and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Reposing will take place at her home in Boho (eircode F45D433) on sunday from 4pm to 7pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bride’s Church, Ballintubber, at 12 noon on Monday, followed by burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea, travelling via Boho. For those unable to attend in person, the Funeral Mass will be live-streamed on the Gaynor Funeral Director’s facebook page. the family has requested privacy at the house on Monday morning.
