deion Sanders Emotional Over Son ShedeurS NFL Debut
BOULDER, COLO. – Hall of Fame player and coach Deion Sanders was overcome with emotion Sunday upon learning his son, Shedeur Sanders, had entered his first NFL game for the cleveland Browns. The Browns quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, was thrust into action during the second half of a 23-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens after starter Dillon Gabriel sustained a concussion.
Sanders, who previously coached Shedeur at the University of Colorado in 2023 and 2024, was conducting a coaching clinic in Boulder when he received a call from his son, Deion Jr., relaying the news.
“I was in tears,” Sanders shared in a video posted online. “(He) called me screaming, ‘Man, I’m crying right now! Can you leave me alone? Leave me alone, leave me alone.'”
Shedeur Sanders completed 4 of 16 passes for 47 yards in his debut. He was drafted by the Browns in the fifth round in 2025, initially serving as a backup to Joe Flacco and later Dillon Gabriel, who became the starter for the preceding six games before being traded to the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Browns are scheduled to play the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Coach Kevin Stefanski stated after the Ravens game that Gabriel will start if he clears concussion protocol; otherwise, Shedeur Sanders will make his first NFL start.
