Eleonora Boi, the pregnant wife of former NBA player Danilo Gallinari, was reportedly attacked by a shark in Puerto Rico on Friday.
Boi,who is expecting her third child with Gallinari,shared details of the incident on her Instagram page,describing it as the “worst day of my life.” She posted a photo from a hospital bed, explaining that the attack occurred close to shore on a crowded beach. Both she and her baby are reported to be unharmed.
According to a translation of her post, Boi was quickly attended to by rescue personnel, and surgery to address her “bruised leg” was successful. She expressed relief at recovering from the “great scare” and humorously mentioned that her lawyer woudl be contacting the shark. Boi also extended gratitude to her husband for his “courage” during the ordeal. Reports indicate she sustained a wound on her thigh.
The Department of Natural and Environmental Resources is investigating the incident. Biologist nilda Jiménez told El Nuevo Dia that based on provided photographs, the bite marks are “consistent with those of a shark.” Further analysis of medical samples, if available, would be required for definitive validation.
Danilo Gallinari, an Italian native, played in the NBA from 2008 to 2024, representing eight different teams. He concluded his career with averages of 14.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game across 777 appearances.
