Shane Gillis’ Awkward ESPYs Monologue: Jokes, Mishaps, and Mixed Reactions

Comedian Shane Gillis is set to host the 2024 ESPY awards, marking his first time hosting the prestigious sports ceremony. The announcement comes as the ESPYs prepare to celebrate athletes and sports moments from the past year.

Gillis, known for his stand-up comedy and the satirical sketch show “Gutfeld!,” will take the stage at the Dolby theater in Los Angeles on July 17.This marks a meaningful moment for the comedian, who has gained a significant following for his unfiltered humor.

The ESPY Awards will also feature other notable honorees. Katie Schumacher-Cawley, the Penn State women’s volleyball coach, will receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. Schumacher-Cawley was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in September but continued coaching, leading her team to an NCAA national championship, becoming the first woman to achieve this feat.

The Sports Humanitarian Awards will recognize the Indianapolis Colts and former U.S. Open tennis champion Sloane Stephens. The Colts are being honored for their “Kicking the Stigma” campaign, wich aims to raise mental health awareness and improve access to treatment. Stephens will receive the Muhammad Ali award for her foundation’s work in making tennis more inclusive for young people.

Michele Kang,owner of the Washington Spirit,will be presented with the Sports Philanthropist of the Year award,and the late Billy Bean,a former MLB player and executive,will be posthumously honored with the Stuart Scott ENSPIRE Award.
