A Ukrainian drone attack on the port city of Sevastopol, Crimea, on Friday resulted in one death, according to Mikhail Razvozhaev, the Russian-appointed governor of the region.
Razvozhaev reported via Telegram that multiple high-rise buildings and private residences sustained damage during the assault. He stated that air defenses intercepted 16 Ukrainian drones. The attack occurred in a city that serves as the headquarters for Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.
The incident took place on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in March 2014 following a period of occupation that began in the winter of the same year. The annexation has not been recognized by the United Nations General Assembly, which continues to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to a separate report from Fakti.bg, a total of 26 drones were reportedly shot down by Russian air defenses. The same report indicated that a woman was also injured in the attack, and that explosions were heard near Dzhankoy, in northern Crimea, close to a military airport. The Russian news agency TASS reported that air defense forces and the Black Sea Fleet collaborated to repel the attack.
In recent months, Russia has relocated a significant portion of its Black Sea Fleet ships to Novorossiysk, in southern Russia, due to the increasing frequency of Ukrainian drone attacks. However, military facilities remain present in Sevastopol and the surrounding area.
Ukrainian authorities have also reported Russian attacks on Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region, resulting in three injuries, and a missile strike on Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine.
Recent reports indicate a pattern of attacks targeting Sevastopol. Ukrainian forces reportedly destroyed a Russian drone base in Sevastopol in August 2025, and the city has been subject to repeated drone attacks throughout 2024, including incidents involving naval drones. In June 2024, Russian authorities reported five deaths and over 120 injuries following an attack on the city.
