Seo In-Young Strongly Denies Long-Running IU Assault Rumors
Singer Seo In-young has strongly denied long-running rumors that she assaulted singer IU during their appearance together on the 2010 SBS variety show Heroes, addressing the persistent allegations during an October 7 appearance on her YouTube channel, where she visited senior singer Baek Ji-young.
The rumor had claimed that Seo dragged IU to a bathroom and physically assaulted her. Speaking on the YouTube video titled “The Real Reason Baek Ji-young Disliked Seo In-young Revealed for the First Time (+Strong Women of the Music Industry, Witness Statements),” Seo expressed intense frustration over the narrative. “There was a rumor that I hit IU. Why on earth would I hit her? There’s even a rumor that I took her to the bathroom and hit her,” Seo stated, noting that the two performers were not even close at the time.
Contextualizing the IU Assault Allegations
The specific allegation regarding IU has followed Seo for over a decade. The claim originated around the time the two appeared together on SBS’s Heroes in 2010. Both artists have repeatedly refuted the claims over the years. IU directly addressed the rumors on MBC’s Radio Star in 2011, stating clearly that she was never dragged to a bathroom or hit. Seo similarly denied the accusations on MBC’s The Knee-Drop Guru in 2013, maintaining that she never called IU to the bathroom or hit her.
During the recent YouTube segment, Baek lightened the tense atmosphere regarding the persistent gossip with a joke. Responding to Seo’s insistence that they were not close enough for an altercation, Baek quipped, “Since you weren’t close, that’s why you hit her,” prompting laughter. Baek added that looking back, she could understand how public perception and exaggerated rumors naturally took root around performers with strong personalities.

“I can see why the rumors start. Hearing it now, it’s funny,” Baek said.
