Bucharest, Romania – A 43-year-old woman has been placed under 60 days of judicial control following an assault on Senator valentina Aldea, a member of the POT party. The incident, which occurred Thursday evening, stemmed from a personal dispute, according to reports.
The case highlights the potential for escalating conflict arising from personal relationships and raises questions about public safety for elected officials. The woman’s judicial control restricts her movements and requires regular check-ins with authorities as the inquiry proceeds. Aldea, representing Electoral District No. 42 Bucharest, sustained injuries requiring 2-3 days of medical care.
The altercation reportedly began when the woman went to the apartment of her estranged husband and discovered Senator aldea’s vehicle parked outside. A verbal dispute escalated, resulting in damage to Aldea’s car. As Aldea and the man exited the building, the woman allegedly attacked them with a metal bar, striking the senator’s hand.
“I went to the police and filed a complaint, and later I went to the IML. I never want you to go through what I went through yesterday,” Senator Aldea stated to AFP (full statement).
According to sources, the woman is the former wife of a man with whom Senator Aldea has a relationship. The couple has been divorced for some time. The incident took place around 7:30 p.m.in a residential complex in Bucharest.
