Seattle Sounders FC announced today a contract extension for midfielder Reed Baker-Whiting, securing the 20-year-old US youth international’s future with the club. The deal will utilize a U22 Initiative roster spot, allowing seattle to retain a promising young talent while managing roster versatility.
Baker-Whiting’s continued development is a key component of the Sounders’ long-term strategy, providing depth and potential in the midfield.The extension underscores the organization’s commitment to fostering homegrown talent and building a competitive squad for years to come. This move impacts the team’s roster construction and offers Baker-Whiting a platform to further contribute to Seattle’s success, including upcoming competitions like the Leagues Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
The young player rose through Seattle’s youth academy, signing a professional contract in 2021 at age 16. He has also gained valuable experience with MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Tacoma Defiance. Across all competitions for Seattle, Baker-Whiting has recorded one goal and three assists in 77 appearances.
“Reed is a young and promising talent who’s already shown a lot of maturity in his time with the club,” said Seattle General Manager Craig Waibel. “We’re pleased to have him continue his journey with us and believe this new contract reflects the potential we see in him.”
Baker-Whiting played a role in Seattle’s 2025 Leagues Cup victory and notably started in the Sounders’ match against Atlético Madrid at this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

He’s still young, but he carries himself well and continues to show progress every time he steps on the field.
