Seal Wanders NJ Roads, Takes Nap – Marine Rescue
A grey seal pup caused a temporary disruption on Long Beach Boulevard in Harvey Cedars, Recent Jersey, on Tuesday, prompting a response from local police and wildlife authorities.
The Harvey Cedars Police Department received a call reporting the seal in the roadway, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC). Officers and crews from the Harvey Cedars Department of Public Works worked to secure the area and guide the animal toward Middlesex Avenue, where it eventually settled down and fell asleep.
Responders from the MMSC arrived and transported the seal to their facility for evaluation. Officials determined the pup, a female, was underweight but did not sustain any injuries during her unexpected road trip. The MMSC noted the seal was in “thin overall condition.”
Traffic was temporarily halted while authorities managed the situation and ensured the seal’s safety. The incident occurred on February 24, according to reports.
The seal is currently receiving care at the MMSC’s Pool House, where it will undergo rehabilitation before a planned release back into the ocean.
