Bangkok, Thailand – An innovative exhibition titled “Local to Global – Empowering Communities Through Upcycled Innovation for sustainable Growth” is currently showcasing the transformative power of upcycled materials and local Thai wisdom. The event aims to elevate Thai local products onto the global stage, fostering economic opportunities and highlighting the ingenuity of Thai entrepreneurs.
The exhibition champions the concept of “From Local To Global,” demonstrating how upcycled materials can be transformed into artistic creations and practical daily items. By integrating traditional local knowledge, the initiative underscores a progress strategy that bridges local dimensions with international markets. It serves as a testament to Thailand’s capacity to leverage indigenous knowledge and sustainable design principles to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and bolster Thailand’s soft power.
A key focus of the exhibition is the practical submission of circular economy principles, a vital driver for sustainable development. This is achieved through innovation and creativity in waste material processing, supported by broad-based,multi-sectoral participation. The exhibition is structured into three main sections:
- Thai Local Entrepreneur products: Featuring collaborations with or selections by Scrap Lab, this section includes items such as sea turtle sculptures crafted from marine waste and necklaces made from Benjarong ceramic scraps.
- Large Private Sector Contributions: showcasing Thai corporations that repurpose waste materials, examples include bio-containers (Thai wah) and collagen derived from tuna by Thai Union.
- UNDP Project Initiatives: This segment highlights the United Nations development Program’s efforts in promoting the integration of local wisdom into sustainable community development projects.
The exhibition will be open to the public until July 25, 2025.
