Scottish Curling: Updates, Results, and Team News

LIVERPOOL, England⁢ – Scotland‘s ‌men’s team has ‍secured a semi-final berth at the European Curling ⁣championships⁤ 2025, while the women’s team kept‌ their ​qualification hopes alive with an 8-5 victory over Norway on Thursday.

The men’s team,after ⁢a two-game ‌absence due⁢ to​ illness,saw Skip Bruce ‍Mouat return to the rink and lead scotland to a crucial win against sweden. Mouat expressed relief at regaining his form, ​stating, “I thought I might have lost the momentum having those two games off, ⁢but I thought I threw pretty​ well in practice. I was ‍glad to be back⁣ and there were a few misses by sweden that let us off the hook.”

In the women’s competition, Sophie Jackson⁣ skipped‌ the scottish team to their fourth win of the tournament against Marianne Roervik’s⁢ Norwegian rink. Scotland built an early lead, ‌scoring four unanswered points over the first three ends, and maintained control for the victory.

Despite the ‍win, Scotland’s women⁤ currently sit sixth in the standings and face a challenging‌ path⁣ to the semi-finals.⁢ Having previously defeated Lithuania, Denmark, and⁢ the⁢ Czech Republic, losses to Turkey, Sweden,​ Italy, and Switzerland mean they now rely on results from other matches to secure a place in the final four.

Sweden, skipped by ⁢Anna Hasselborg, have already qualified with seven wins.⁤ Denmark,​ norway, ‌and Switzerland are all ⁣tied on five wins, one ⁣ahead of Scotland.

“That win was really important for us as we want that world qualification spot and⁣ that’s what‍ we’re focused​ on now,” ‌said Jackson.

Jackson also shared a personal⁣ note, revealing, “I sadly had some news yesterday that my grandad passed away. It’s actually changed the mood in the team a little.we are just‌ doing everything for each other​ and make it the best time we can out there.”
