LIVERPOOL, England – Scotland‘s men’s team has secured a semi-final berth at the European Curling championships 2025, while the women’s team kept their qualification hopes alive with an 8-5 victory over Norway on Thursday.
The men’s team, after a two-game absence due to illness, saw Skip Bruce Mouat return to the rink and lead scotland to a crucial win against sweden. Mouat expressed relief at regaining his form, stating, “I thought I might have lost the momentum having those two games off, but I thought I threw pretty well in practice. I was glad to be back and there were a few misses by sweden that let us off the hook.”
In the women’s competition, Sophie Jackson skipped the scottish team to their fourth win of the tournament against Marianne Roervik’s Norwegian rink. Scotland built an early lead, scoring four unanswered points over the first three ends, and maintained control for the victory.
Despite the win, Scotland’s women currently sit sixth in the standings and face a challenging path to the semi-finals. Having previously defeated Lithuania, Denmark, and the Czech Republic, losses to Turkey, Sweden, Italy, and Switzerland mean they now rely on results from other matches to secure a place in the final four.
Sweden, skipped by Anna Hasselborg, have already qualified with seven wins. Denmark, norway, and Switzerland are all tied on five wins, one ahead of Scotland.
“That win was really important for us as we want that world qualification spot and that’s what we’re focused on now,” said Jackson.
Jackson also shared a personal note, revealing, “I sadly had some news yesterday that my grandad passed away. It’s actually changed the mood in the team a little.we are just doing everything for each other and make it the best time we can out there.”
