Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Indonesian Counterpart in Tianjin

TIANJIN – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono in Tianjin on September 1st, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Minister Sugiono is in China representing Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Shanghai Cooperation Institution (SCO) Summit 2025 preparations and commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. President Subianto’s planned visit to China was adjusted due to recent domestic priorities, as stated by officials.
during the meeting, Minister Sugiono emphasized Indonesia‘s commitment to strengthening its relationship with China and expressed his wishes for the success of the upcoming events. He further assured Minister Wang that the Indonesian government would prioritize the safety and security of Chinese personnel and institutions within Indonesia.
Wang Yi, who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China central Committee, welcomed Minister Sugiono’s presence as President Prabowo’s representative. He acknowledged and respected the Indonesian government’s decision to adjust its schedule based on domestic needs.
Minister Wang also conveyed his hope that Indonesia would continue to safeguard the safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and organizations operating within its borders, according to the official Xinhua report.
