Yankees Pitcher Cam Schlittler Condemns Harassment of Family Following ALCS Victory Over Red Sox
BOSTON – New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler revealed that his family was subjected to online harassment from Red Sox fans following his dominant performance in Game 3 of teh American League Championship Series on Thursday, a game that eliminated Boston from postseason contention. Schlittler, who pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings, acknowledged the animosity but expressed disappointment that the attacks extended to his family.
“Some of the bigger accounts they got over there, I was able to see, regrettably,” Schlittler said, adding he was alerted to the harassment before the game. “Don’t need to give them the attention they’re looking for, but just channel it and made sure I took it in the right way.”
The harassment surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), prompting Schlittler to advise his family not to engage with the negative comments. He sent a text message to family members 40 minutes before the game asking them to refrain from responding.
Schlittler, a Northeastern University product who resides in South Boston during the offseason, responded to the backlash with a series of posts on X, including a reference to the red Sox’s victory song, “Dirty Water,” writing, “Drinking dat dirty water.” He further clarified his connection to Boston, stating he attended school there for three years and lives in the city during the offseason.
“Went to school in bos for 3 years, I live in Southie during the off season, start preparing for the bruins szn homie ✌️,” he posted on October 3, 2025.
Despite the hostility, Schlittler acknowledged his friends, many of whom are Red Sox fans, where initially “bummed out” by Boston’s elimination.”But I told them that’s exactly what’s going to happen,” he said. “They’ll get over it.Hockey season is coming up. basketball season is coming up. I’m sure they’ve got othre things to distract them.”
Yankees manager Aaron Boone was aware of the situation and expressed his support for Schlittler. “Cam’s a tough kid,” Boone said.”I know (he) is going to handle any slings and arrows. Social media can be an ugly place sometimes… Cam is broad-shouldered,confident,clear-eyed,and I don’t think going to be affected by much.” Boone added that the fact the harassment came from Red Sox fans was “a little more disappointing.”
Schlittler told Boone the night before his start that he was prepared and had “no ties to Boston.” He declined to elaborate on the specifics of the conversation, stating, “I can’t really repeat” what he said.
