SaviorS: Oath of the Blade – Action RPG Shifts to Belt-Scroll Style
Japanese developer Ouloboros is refining its action role-playing game, SaviorS : Oath of the Blade, shifting its design from a planned Metroidvania to a belt-scrolling action format, according to recent posts on the developer’s X (formerly Twitter) account.
The game, initially conceived as a Metroidvania with a targeted spring 2026 release, is undergoing a significant change to emphasize large-scale combat encounters. Ouloboros is exploring a belt-scrolling perspective to better facilitate battles involving multiple party members and enemy groups. The developer noted on X that the decision stems from a desire to maximize the enjoyment of group combat, adding depth to the gameplay experience.
“We are considering changing to a belt scroll style design to maximize the fun of group battles by adding depth,” Ouloboros posted on X. The developer cautioned that the transition is contingent on technical feasibility, acknowledging the possibility of abandoning the new direction if system-level challenges prove insurmountable. “Depending on the impact on various systems, there is a possibility of giving up, but we are carefully verifying the technology,” the developer stated.
As a result of the design reassessment, the opening of a Steam store page and the announcement of a new release date have been postponed until the game’s direction is firmly established. Players can follow development updates and view gameplay footage on Ouloboros’s X account (@SaviorS_OOTB).
SaviorS : Oath of the Blade will feature players leading a party of non-player characters through randomly generated dungeons, engaging in combat against waves of enemies. The game aims to blend challenging combat with a focus on acquiring powerful equipment.
The current release timeline for SaviorS : Oath of the Blade remains undefined. Further information regarding the game’s progress can be found on the developer’s X account.
