Snapchat Celebrates Saudi National Day with First-Ever Localized Bitmoji Wardrobe
DUBAI: Snapchat is marking Saudi National day on September 23rd with the launch of a unique Bitmoji wardrobe featuring customary Saudi attire, including abayas and thobes. This marks the first time Snapchat has created a dedicated, localized wardrobe for its popular Bitmoji avatars, tho the platform has previously offered culturally relevant clothing via augmented reality lenses.
Abdulla Al-Hammadi, Managing Director of Snap Inc. in Saudi Arabia, expressed pride in the Kingdom being the first country to receive this feature. “We are proud that Saudi Arabia is the first country in the world where we are launching a localized Bitmoji wardrobe,” he stated. “this milestone reflects the Kingdom’s position as a global hub for digital innovation, while also aligning with Vision 2030’s ambitions to empower youth and celebrate national identity.”
The launch underscores Snap’s growing commitment to the Saudi market, evidenced by last year’s opening of a new office and the Majlis Snap for Content Creators - the Kingdom’s first creator hub – located in Riyadh’s JAX district in Diriyah. Al-Hammadi confirmed this continued investment, stating, “Such initiatives along with the latest launch reflect the company’s commitment to ‘continued investment in the Kingdom.'”
Snapchat reports that saudi Arabia is a key global market, boasting a passionate and creative user base that has been central to the platform’s growth for over a decade. Globally, users have created over 2.7 billion Bitmojis. The new wardrobe is designed to allow Saudi Snapchatters to express thier national pride through their digital avatars, showcasing the Kingdom’s culture and heritage.
With 25 million monthly active users in saudi Arabia who open the app more than 50 times a day on average, Snapchat plans to introduce further localized features in the region in the future.
