Saudi Medical City Planned for Sudan: A Leap Forward for Healthcare
Port Sudan – The Federal Ministry of Health convened a pivotal meeting today to discuss a groundbreaking proposal from Petroji Medical House, a prominent Saudi institution affiliated with the Saudi German Hospitals group. The proposal outlines the establishment of an integrated medical city within Sudan, marking a important step towards revitalizing the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.
the meeting, held in the quarantine hall in Port Sudan, saw the participation of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation, alongside representatives from various relevant ministries and security authorities. During the session, Petroji Medical House presented its complete project proposal, which was then thoroughly examined from technical, financial, legal, administrative, investment, and security perspectives. The potential benefits and feasibility of the project’s on-the-ground implementation were key discussion points.

Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, emphasized the transformative potential of this project. He stated that it represents a “qualitative shift in the reconstruction of the health sector,” promising to deliver integrated medical services under one roof. This initiative is expected to foster the localization of medical treatment within Sudan, bolster medical tourism programs, elevate the standard of healthcare, and create valuable job opportunities and training for national medical professionals.
Dr. Ibrahim further highlighted the strong fraternal ties between Sudan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an ideal foundation for such an endeavor. He views the project as a continuation of Saudi Arabia’s supportive role in Sudan’s health sector development and a positive indicator of the country’s improving investment climate.
Concluding the meeting, the committee gave its in-principle approval for the project’s implementation following a comprehensive review of the proposal. An agreement was reached on the collaborative approach to construction and employment, with a clear directive that the primary headquarters of the Medical City will be established in Khartoum State, complemented by branches in other states. All necessary procedures will be facilitated to ensure the project’s success and long-term sustainability.
The committee’s membership includes key figures such as the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Federal Health, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation (who holds a decisive vote), and representatives from other pertinent ministries.
