TORONTO – award-winning filmmaker Sarah Polley received the key to​ the city ⁢of Toronto ⁤today, November ‌16, 2023, in recognition of her​ significant contributions to ⁢Canadian cinema and culture. the⁣ presentation took place at a‌ ceremony at Nathan​ Phillips Square, attended by Mayor Olivia Chow and members of the city council.

Polley,‍ known for directing critically acclaimed films like Away From ​Her, Stories We Tell,​ and most recently, women Talking, was lauded⁣ for her powerful storytelling and commitment to ⁣exploring complex social issues. Women Talking, adapted from ‍Miriam Toews’ ​novel, garnered numerous accolades, including nominations⁢ for Academy Awards.”sarah Polley is a true Toronto talent,” said Mayor Chow during the ceremony. “Her work has ⁤resonated with audiences around the world, and she continues to inspire us with her​ creativity and vision.”

Born in ‌Toronto in 1979, Polley began her career as a child actress, appearing in films such as The Sweet Hereafter and Exotica.She transitioned to writing and directing, establishing herself as one of Canada‘s most respected filmmakers. The key to the‍ city is Toronto’s highest civic honor,previously bestowed upon figures like David Cronenberg and Margaret Atwood.
