Sarah Jessica Parker is choosing to remain disconnected from fan reactions to And Just Like That… and the original Sex and the City, prioritizing her own emotional well-being. The Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG award-winning actress revealed she intentionally avoids engaging with online commentary, acknowledging the passionate and sometimes critical responses the shows generate.
Parker explained to PEOPLE that she “doesn’t have the constitution” to monitor fan chatter, stating, “I think you’re going to perhaps read things or hear things that don’t always feel great.” She recognizes that strong feelings are a natural part of a community’s engagement with a show, but believes it’s best to allow those reactions to exist without her intervention. “It doesn’t mean that a feeling can’t change, it’s a reaction,” Parker said. ”We want very much for people to have all those feelings, and it’s not for us to police or try to correct them.”
The actress also admitted she doesn’t even enjoy watching herself on screen, finding it “not pleasant” and “not fun.” She anticipates that distancing herself further from the shows would only amplify sentimental and emotional complexities. Parker shared these thoughts during a Q&A session hosted on Threads at Il Buco al Mare in Amagansett, N.Y., on August 11.
All seasons of And Just Like That… and Sex and the City are currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
