Lebanese School Project Highlights Water Management Solutions at São Paulo Architecture Biennale
SÃO PAULO – A project from a Lebanese school is among the exhibits at the São Paulo International Architecture Biennale, showcasing water management techniques mirroring those implemented in Brazil, according to Biennale curator Renato Anelli. The Biennale, running until October 19,focuses on climate challenges, with water – both scarcity and excess – as a central theme.
The exhibition highlights initiatives rehabilitating environments through water use, often employing linear parks as a solution. “What we observed…is that several other countries are working on techniques similar to those used in Brazil, and it was a pleasant surprise for us to see the work from the Lebanese school applying principles similar to what we’ve been implementing here,” Anelli told ANBA. He noted the international concern surrounding water and its relationship with vegetated banks.
Beyond water, the Biennale addresses rising temperatures with exhibits like panels displaying “warming stripes” illustrating increasing temperatures in Brazilian cities including Recife, Porto Alegre, Cuiabá, Contagem, and Guarulhos.
The Biennale is organized around five thematic axes: preserving forests and reforesting cities; living with water; renovating more and building green; moving and accessing together with renewable energy; and ensuring climate justice and social housing. It features models, conceptual projects, and explanatory displays. Admission is free. More data is available at https://bienaldearquitetura.org.br/.
