Santa Cruz officials push Caleta Olivia free zone forward
Guillermo Morales met with authorities from the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Production and Services in Caleta Olivia. As Subsecretary of Coordination and Monitoring of Free Zones under the Ministry of Production, Commerce and Industry, Morales sat down with local leaders to review progress on the local free zone site and discuss investment incentives under the free regime framework.
Targeting Tax Exemptions and Capital Inflows
During the working session, participants reviewed the current status of the commercial and industrial sectors in Caleta Olivia alongside the specific benefits of the free zone regime. The gathering included Chamber President Miriam Giorgia, Pro-Treasurer Diego Rodríguez, and Board Member Carlos Chiquelli. Together, the officials defined the initial proposal slated for the agenda of the upcoming Monitoring Committee session.
Morales addressed direct inquiries from corporate directors regarding operational mechanisms, tax scopes, current exemptions, and operational facilities aimed at incentivizing new projects in the city. The dialogue focused heavily on lowering friction for incoming capital expenditures.
Chamber Leaders Praise Remote Meeting Upgrades
Chamber leadership praised the government of Santa Cruz for maintaining consistent spaces for local business input within the Monitoring Committee. Giorgia highlighted the implementation of remote meeting modalities as a key operational upgrade, allowing active debate and direct consent in decisions rather than passive notification of pre-approved measures.
While past announcements regarding the site’s opening faced delays, local representatives noted that the current trajectory feels closer to realization, expressing satisfaction with ongoing communication channels.
Technical Site Visit Planned for Construction Phase
Morales reaffirmed the commitment of Minister of Production, Commerce and Industry Nadia Ricci to conduct a technical site visit once formal construction work commences, inviting local authorities to participate.
This initiative aligns with Governor Claudio Vidal’s broader policy to strengthen productive development tools and foster public-private collaboration across the province.
