Geely launches updated EX5 electric SUV in China with RWD and LiDAR
Geely launched its updated EX5 electric SUV in China, rolling out five variants priced from 97,800 yuan (sekitar Rp 260 jutaan) to 137,800 yuan (sekitar Rp 367 jutaan), featuring a major shift from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive alongside advanced LiDAR sensors for driver-assistance systems.
EV Powertrain Evolution and Battery Specifications
The revised Geely EX5 transitions from front-wheel drive to a rear-wheel-drive configuration, boosting its electric motor output to 245 kW, which equates to 329 horsepower. This represents an increase of 85 kW, or 114 horsepower, over previous iterations. Powering these variants is Geely’s new Aegis Golden Brick short-blade battery architecture, distributed across three distinct capacities. The 60.22 kWh pack delivers a CLTC range of 530 kilometers, rated at 429 kilometers under WLTP testing. Stepping up to the 61.52 kWh variant yields 550 kilometers of range, or 446 kilometers on the WLTP cycle. At the top of the lineup, the 70.01 kWh configuration achieves 635 kilometers, translating to 514 kilometers under WLTP standards.
Four of the available trims adopt the “Smart Charging” designation, utilizing an 800V high-voltage electrical architecture designed to accelerate charging velocities.
Advanced Driver Assistance and Dimensional Adjustments
The structural refresh alters the vehicle’s physical footprint while expanding its active safety suite. The rear-wheel-drive EX5 measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, built upon a 2,745 mm wheelbase that expands legroom for rear passengers. Exterior aesthetics maintain the closed front grille and slender headlamp layout of earlier models, though designers integrated roof-mounted LiDAR sensors to bolster autonomy.
These hardware additions power features such as Navigate on Autopilot, memory parking, and fingertip parking. Inside the cabin, the steering wheel shifts from a unique two-spoke design to a more conventional three-spoke layout alongside updated seat upholstery patterns. Standard amenities retained from preceding models include zero-gravity passenger seats with ottomans, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.2-inch instrument panel, a 15.4-inch infotainment display, a head-up display, and a wireless charging pad.
Market Positioning and Global Expansion Context
The existing iteration of the EX5 already serves as a core volume driver for the brand in Indonesia.
