Samsung Galaxy Watch Can Predict Fainting 5 Minutes in Advance
Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Watch 6 is capable of predicting fainting episodes associated with vasovagal syncope (VVS) up to five minutes before they occur.
The technology utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze physiological data and identify warning signs that precede a loss of consciousness. By detecting these patterns in advance, the smartwatch can provide a notification to the user, offering a window of time to respond before a fainting spell begins.
Vasovagal syncope is a condition characterized by a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure, which leads to a temporary loss of consciousness. The ability to predict these episodes is intended to mitigate the risks associated with sudden falls, which can result in secondary injuries.
The integration of AI into the wearable device allows for the identification of specific precursors to VVS. According to reports, this predictive capability is designed to alert users early enough to move into a safe position or seek assistance, potentially preventing the trauma often associated with unplanned fainting episodes.
The feature is currently being positioned as a critical development in the health-monitoring capabilities of the Galaxy Watch series, shifting the device’s utility from passive tracking to active preemptive notification.
Samsung is preparing the rollout of this feature to enhance the safety of users prone to syncope.
