Samsung Galaxy S25: Double-Tap Gesture Coming to One UI

Samsung May Soon Offer a Native Double-Tap Back ‍Gesture

Samsung ⁣is reportedly developing a built-in double-tap back gesture for ⁣its Galaxy phones, according to code‌ discovered within⁤ the latest one UI 8.5 APK. This ‍potential addition,⁢ revealed‍ through an android ‍Authority teardown, would allow users ⁣to trigger actions by simply double-tapping⁤ the back‌ of ⁤their device.

Currently, Galaxy phone ‌owners seeking ⁤this functionality must rely on third-party apps like‌ RegiStar. ⁤A native implementation would bring Samsung in line with competitors such as Google, Apple, Xiaomi, and ASUS, all of whom already offer similar gestures on their devices. The discovery signals a‍ potential ⁤shift towards greater customization and convenience for Samsung users.

The code‍ strings identify the feature as “double_back_tap” and ⁣describe it as a gesture activated by “gently tap[ping] the back of the phone twice while the ‍screen is on.” A ⁤list of potential ⁤actions tied to the gesture⁣ has also been found, including:

* AI Select
* Flashlight
* ‍ ‍ Notifications
* Open app
* Privacy display
* Speedy settings
*⁢ Screenshot

RegiStar ⁤currently ⁢enables⁣ users to double-tap‌ for actions like taking and sharing screenshots, accessing Gemini, launching pop-up windows, displaying notifications, showing recent apps, going back, or⁤ opening a specific⁤ application. It is indeed hoped that⁣ some of these‌ triggers, and others found ⁤within the⁣ Good Lock app, will be integrated into the native One UI 8.5 feature.

It’s‍ important to note that this discovery is based on‌ an APK teardown, meaning the feature may not ultimately be released to⁢ the public. Though, the presence of the ⁤code strongly suggests Samsung is actively working to bring a⁤ double-tap back gesture⁢ natively to its Galaxy phones.
