Sampa the Great to Bring Nu Zamrock Tour to Berlin
Sampa the Great will bring her Nu Zamrock tour to Berlin, staging an exclusive show that centers on her third album.
The Roots of Nu Zamrock
The Berlin date follows the release of Sampa the Great’s 2026 album, Nu Zamrock. On the record, the artist known offstage as Sampa Tembo weaves the traditions of Zambian Zamrock—a genre blending psychedelic rock, funk, and African rhythms—with modern hip-hop production and personal narrative.
The project draws direct inspiration from her family history. Her uncle was a founding member of the legendary Zamrock band WITCH, prompting the artist to carry forward that musical legacy. Born in Zambia, raised in Botswana, and shaped artistically during her university years in Sydney, Australia, Sampa Tembo has steadily built an international catalog.
From Sydney Mixtapes to Global Stages
Her trajectory began in Sydney, where she connected with producer Godriguez to release The Great Mixtape in 2015. That release led to 2017’s Birds and the BEE9, which layered gospel, neo-soul, and poetry over rap structures. International recognition arrived with her 2019 debut album, The Return, which earned global acclaim and established her presence on major festival lineups including Coachella and Glastonbury, alongside television appearances on Later… with Jools Holland and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts.
During the pandemic, she recorded her second album, As Above, So Below (2022), in Zambia, which incorporated more traditional Zambian languages and musical forms. That work paved the way for the heavier guitar riffs and precise rap deliveries featured on Nu Zamrock.
