Italian Police Seize 21 Alleged Fake Salvador dalí Works
PARMA, Italy – Italian police seized 21 artworks attributed too Salvador Dalí at a gallery in Parma on Tuesday, October 1, 2025, following doubts about their authenticity. The exhibition, which opened September 26, had been planned to feature 80 works by the Spanish surrealist artist.
Concerns were initially raised during a routine check in January when the exhibition was displayed in Rome. Investigators noted the collection consisted primarily of lithographs, posters, and drawings, lacking meaningful paintings or other major works.
“It was challenging to understand why anyone would like to organize an exhibition with works of such low value,” said Diego Poglio, who led the investigation.
The Dalí Foundation, which manages the artist’s estate, confirmed they had not been contacted by the exhibition organizers.Photos sent to the Foundation were unable to verify the artworks’ authenticity, leading prosecutors to authorize the seizure.
No suspects have been identified at this time. The seized artworks will undergo technical examination to determine if they are forgeries.
