Veteran actress Sally Kirkland is currently receiving hospice care as she battles dementia,according to a recent update from those supporting her. The 84-year-old, known for her Golden Globe-winning performance in “Anna,” is “now and is resting comfortably,” a statement released today indicated, requesting “thoughts and prayers” for the actress.
This news follows a challenging period for Kirkland, who experienced a fall in October that resulted in rib and foot injuries, along with cuts and bruises.She has been receiving 24/7 care in a specialized facility, with organizers previously noting the financial strain of covering ongoing care costs. The update on October 2nd described the preceding months as “challenging” as her health struggled, and highlighted the need for continued fundraising to bridge the gap between her income and care expenses.
Kirkland won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama in 1988 for her role in “Anna.” She also received accolades from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Independent Spirit Awards for the same role, and earned an Academy award nomination. Beyond “Anna,” Kirkland’s extensive filmography includes appearances in “The Sting,” “Best of the Best,” ”JFK,” and “Bruce Almighty.”
