Salem Shooting: Man Hospitalized, Suspect Arrested

Salem man Hospitalized with Facial Gunshot wound; Suspect in Custody

SALEM, Ore. – A 31-year-old man is hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the face following an early Saturday morning shooting in northeast Salem. Police arrested a suspect, identified as Morales-Gabriel, after a standoff with the Salem SWAT team.

Officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 4:08 a.m. on November 22, regarding the shooting. Upon arrival at a home on Northeast Ferndell Street, they found the victim who reported being shot while outside a nearby residence. Morales-Gabriel was subsequently identified as the suspect and officers surrounded his home.

According to Salem Police Department spokesman Jonathan Hardy,Morales-Gabriel surrendered to the Salem SWAT team at 4:54 a.m. without further incident,and the scene was secured by 6:20 a.m. He is currently being held on a $42,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Court records indicate Morales-Gabriel resides on Northeast Ferndell Street and has an open case in Marion County Circuit Court stemming from a domestic violence incident in July, where he was charged with attempting to strangle a woman.

The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.
