Sai Kishore’s 5-20 Powers Gloucestershire to Big Win Over Derbyshire

September 6, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

India spinner Sai Kishore delivered a decisive 5-20 performance to bowl Gloucestershire to a 213-run victory over Derbyshire on day four of the Rothesay County Championship Division Two match at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol, ending a six-match losing streak for the home side.

Spin Dominance and Second-Innings Resurgence in Bristol

The batting collapse was orchestrated entirely by slow bowlers, with Kishore claiming five wickets, Ollie Price taking 3-59, and Ed Middleton contributing 2-17 to account for all 10 opposition wickets. The victory earned bottom-of-the-table Gloucestershire 19 points, while Derbyshire departed Bristol with three points.

The comprehensive win marked a stark turnaround for the home side, who had found themselves struggling at 37-5 during the opening stages of the fixture. The recovery was built on a formidable fourth-wicket partnership between Miles Hammond and James Bracey, who added 210 runs to the board. Hammond contributed 118 runs, while Bracey finished unbeaten on 104, etching his name into the club’s record books by becoming the first Gloucestershire player to register two hundreds in a single first-class match since Alex Gidman achieved the feat at Archdeacon Meadow in 2007. Bracey also secured a piece of history by becoming the first Gloucestershire wicketkeeper to post twin hundreds since Harry Smith in 1919.

Derbyshire Collapse and Tactical Breakdown

Derbyshire’s run chase unravelled immediately after the tea interval on the final day. Kishore struck twice in two balls in the opening over of the session, trapping Harry Came lbw before bowling Matt Montgomery to puncture any hopes of a measured pursuit. When Wayne Madsen was caught at second slip, the visitors slid to 32-3. The procession continued as Mohammed Bin Naeem fell lbw to Price, and Kishore added the scalps of Aneurin Donald and Brooke Guest to secure a five-wicket haul inside eight overs. Martin Andersson offered the only sustained resistance for the visitors with a stubborn 35 before edging Middleton to first slip, paving the way for Price to wrap up the innings.

With 19 points secured from the fixture, Gloucestershire will look to translate this spin-heavy tactical blueprint into the remaining rounds of the County Championship. The ability to extract decisive turn from the Bristol Pavilion end validates the selection of overseas acquisitions and validates the coaching staff’s pitch preparation strategy.
