Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, chairman of the World Green Economy Organization, opened a ministerial roundtable on October 22, 2026, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, addressing how governments can mobilize green investments for a resilient global economy.

The ministerial roundtable, titled De l’ambition aux projets bancables : mobiliser les investissements verts pour une économie mondiale résiliente et inclusive, took place during the 12th edition of the World Green Economy Summit (WGES). The two-day summit was held on October 21 and 22, 2026, under the theme Du succès au changement d’échelle : mettre en valeur l’économie verte.

Attendees included Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates; Aliou Gori Diouf, Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition of Senegal; Balarabe Abbas Lawal, Minister of Environment of Nigeria; and Steven Victor, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment of Palau.

Other ministerial figures present at the discussion were Ibrahim Mimrah, Minister of State for Climate Change, Environment and Energy of the Maldives; Bader Wael Bader Al-Ajeel Al-Askar, Secretary General of the Arab Towns Organization; Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability; and Hasan Suver, Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change of Türkiye, representing the COP31 presidency. Bérengère Boëll, United Nations Resident Coordinator in the United Arab Emirates, attended alongside multiple other United Nations officials.

Addressing the Challenge of Bankable Projects

During the roundtable, Al Tayer emphasized that governments have already adopted strategies, made climate commitments, drafted green economy plans, and established precise targets. He framed the central challenge of the global ecological transition as transforming strong commitments into projects capable of attracting financing and producing measurable results.

Le thème « De l’ambition aux projets bancables » résume le défi majeur de la transition écologique mondiale : transformer des engagements forts en projets capables d’attirer des financements et de produire des résultats mesurables.

Al Tayer noted that bankability extends beyond financial returns, involving the structuring of projects to attract capital while simultaneously generating green jobs, creating opportunities for small businesses and youth, and ensuring an equitable distribution of benefits across the pillars central to WGES 2026.
