ARIA Charts Usher in Major overhaul, Reflecting ⁤Shift⁢ in Music consumption

Sydney, Australia – Australia’s official music charts underwent a significant transformation today, September 5, with the implementation of a revamped⁢ system designed too prioritize⁢ new⁤ music and Australian artists. The changes, spearheaded by ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association),‌ resulted in a dramatically altered chart landscape, welcoming 17 ⁣new albums and 45 re-entries to the Top 100 while ⁤reducing carryover from the previous week to just 38 ‌titles.

The overhaul addresses evolving music consumption habits and aims to provide a more ⁣dynamic reflection of current listening ⁣trends. The updated charts will offer increased⁣ visibility for emerging talent and a ‍broader platform for Australian music, benefiting artists, the‌ industry, and⁣ music fans alike. This shift comes as streaming continues to‌ dominate music consumption, necessitating a chart system that accurately captures this evolving landscape.

Sabrina‌ Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA‍ Albums Chart, followed by the soundtrack to‌ Kpop Demon Hunters ⁣ and Stray Kids’ KARMA. ‌ Five australian⁢ albums secured a place in the Top 20, including The‍ Wolfe Brothers’ Australian Made at No. 9 and Hayley Jensen’s Contry Soul at No. 14.

ARIA CEO ‌Annabelle Herd explained earlier this⁣ year that the changes “will open up ⁢space in all the charts for new music and new Australian music.” She‌ further elaborated,‌ “What we think we’re doing is⁤ giving ⁣more facts to artists, to industry and people ⁢who are⁣ listening to new music and older music.”

On the ARIA Singles Chart, “Golden” from the Kpop Demon Hunters ‌soundtrack maintained its No.⁢ 1 position for a sixth consecutive week, tying PSY’s “Gangnam Style” as‌ the longest-running chart-topper by a Korean artist in ARIA history.

The new system also introduces dedicated “On Replay” charts, with Sabrina‌ Carpenter’s Emails I Can’t Send (2022) claiming the top spot ⁤for Albums and the Goo Goo ‌Dolls’ “Iris” (1998) leading the Singles chart.
