Ryoji Ikeda’s data-cosm [n°1] Installation Returns to 180 Studios
Japanese composer and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda is bringing his large-scale immersive audiovisual installation, data-cosm [n°1], back to 180 Studios in London. Running from October 14 through December 20, 2026, the exhibition transforms complex nature datasets into a sensory environment, expanding upon the artist’s acclaimed data-verse project.
The Evolution of Ikeda’s Data-Driven Universe
Originally commissioned by 180 Studios and premiering in October 2025, data-cosm [n°1] was initially extended through February 1, 2026, due to popular demand before securing its upcoming autumn 2026 return. The site-specific work charts the full spectrum of data in nature, moving from the microscopic realm of particle physics to the macroscopic scale of astrophysics. According to materials provided by The Vinyl Factory, the installation functions as a giant microscope, a scientific apparatus, a clinical device, a monitoring system, and a window to an infinitely vast space.

Visitors to the exhibition at 6 Surrey Street are invited to lie down on the floor and look up at a vast LED ceiling screen, surrounded entirely by Ikeda’s soundscapes. The project directly builds on the foundations of Ikeda’s data-verse trilogy, which previously translated complex scientific information into sound and image across multiple chapters.
A Decade-Long Collaboration with 180 Studios and The Vinyl Factory
The return of the exhibition underscores a long-standing partnership between the artist, 180 Studios, and The Vinyl Factory. Their collaborations stretch back to 2015, when The Vinyl Factory staged the UK premiere of Ikeda’s audiovisual installation supersymmetry at the Brewer Street Car Park in Soho. That milestone was followed in 2017 by the staging of his interactive work test pattern at 180 The Strand, which drew over 100,000 visitors.
In 2021, 180 Studios mounted the artist’s largest-ever European exhibition, spanning over 10 artworks across two floors of the building. Alongside these large-scale physical exhibitions, The Vinyl Factory has released multiple physical editions with Ikeda, as well as a 17-minute vinyl soundtrack edition for data-cosm [n°1] pressed on 180-gram heavyweight black vinyl and limited to 1,000 copies worldwide.
