Ryanair Expands Flights from Bratislava, Challenging Wizz Air

Wizz Air Launches Bratislava-Košice Route, Ryanair Follows Suit

Bratislava, Slovakia – ‍Wizz‌ air‌ has⁤ initiated‌ flights connecting Bratislava and Košice, prompting Ryanair to mirror the route, intensifying‍ competition on ‌the ⁣domestic Slovak ⁤air travel market. The new Bratislava-Košice line addresses‌ a previously unmet demand,offering a quicker alternative to ⁣ground transportation between the two cities.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, ‌bratislava Airport had never surpassed 350,000 passengers ‍in a single month, with ⁤a previous ⁤peak of over 349,000 recorded in July 2018.August 2023 saw Bratislava Airport achieve a record 350,000 passengers, with popular⁢ destinations including Antalya,‌ London (Stansted and Luton), Burgas, Larnaka,⁤ and hurgada. ‍ Košice⁢ Airport also experienced its most accomplished August,‍ handling a ⁢record 126,574 passengers ⁣- a 0.6 percent year-on-year increase. Through‌ the first eight months of 2023, Košice Airport processed 581,294 passengers, a ⁢10 percent increase​ compared to the same period last year, ‌with 372,736 traveling on regular lines (a 21 percent year-on-year increase) and 206,970 on‍ charter ⁤flights (a slight⁢ decrease).
