Wizz Air Launches Bratislava-Košice Route, Ryanair Follows Suit
Bratislava, Slovakia – Wizz air has initiated flights connecting Bratislava and Košice, prompting Ryanair to mirror the route, intensifying competition on the domestic Slovak air travel market. The new Bratislava-Košice line addresses a previously unmet demand,offering a quicker alternative to ground transportation between the two cities.
Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, bratislava Airport had never surpassed 350,000 passengers in a single month, with a previous peak of over 349,000 recorded in July 2018.August 2023 saw Bratislava Airport achieve a record 350,000 passengers, with popular destinations including Antalya, London (Stansted and Luton), Burgas, Larnaka, and hurgada. Košice Airport also experienced its most accomplished August, handling a record 126,574 passengers - a 0.6 percent year-on-year increase. Through the first eight months of 2023, Košice Airport processed 581,294 passengers, a 10 percent increase compared to the same period last year, with 372,736 traveling on regular lines (a 21 percent year-on-year increase) and 206,970 on charter flights (a slight decrease).
