Russia Denies Responsibility as Poland Investigates Drone Intrusion
Warsaw, Poland – Following reports of unidentified drones crossing into Polish airspace, Russia has dismissed allegations of involvement, framing the incident as a potential provocation and asserting its military did not target polish territory. The response comes as Poland investigates the origin and intent of the drones, raising concerns about potential escalation amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The incident, occurring on the border of a NATO member state, underscores the heightened risks of the war spilling beyond ukraine’s borders. While Polish officials are working to determine the drones’ origin, the event has prompted a swift response from both Warsaw and its allies, demanding clarification from Moscow. The situation highlights the delicate balance between supporting Ukraine and avoiding direct confrontation wiht Russia, with potential ramifications for regional security and NATO’s collective defense posture.
According to Russian news agency Interfax, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined direct comment, deferring to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Peskov also criticized what he described as daily accusations from EU and NATO leadership, claiming they lacked supporting evidence.
The Russian Defense ministry stated that “no targets on Polish territory were planned for strikes” and maintained the drones’ maximum flight range did not exceed 700 kilometers, implying they could not have originated from Russian territory.
