Russell Brand: Promiscuous Life Reframed as Assault, He Told Police
Russell Brand told police during multiple interrogations that his past celebrity lifestyle of kissing countless fans and sleeping with women has been unfavourably reframed into false allegations of rape and sexual assault, thejournal.ie reported. Brand faces three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault alongside an attempted indecent assault charge during an ongoing trial at Southwark Crown Court in London.
The former comedian, now 51, was questioned by detectives four times between November 2023 and July 2025 following joint investigations published by The Times, Sunday Times, and Channel 4. Throughout those police interviews, Brand consistently denied engaging in any non-consensual sexual activity, characterizing the allegations as entirely false.
Police Interrogations and Public Encounters
Detailing his past behavior to investigators, Brand described a highly active social life that involved kissing hundreds of members of the public during live events, press junkets, and book signings. He stated that he routinely engaged in casual sexual encounters in countless locations, including toilet cubicles during parties, often with people he had just met.

Brand told detectives that he routinely made provocative jokes, shared warm physical contact with fans in public view, and would occasionally ask casual sexual partners to leave shortly after encounters concluded. He argued that the immense magnitude of his past promiscuity, when combined with media coverage and public calls for additional complainants, led consensual encounters to be reimagined decades later.
Addressing specific claims, Brand acknowledged it was likely he attended a party at a Soho bar where an MTV worker accused him of sexual assault, but maintained that any physical contact was entirely consensual. His barrister, Ian Winter KC, told the court that the defense maintains all sexual encounters with the complainants were consensual and that certain memories have been reimagined since public allegations emerged in September 2023.
Six Women Allege Misconduct Between 1999 and 2009
The current criminal trial centers on accusations brought by six women detailing alleged misconduct occurring between 1999 and 2009. These include an accusation that Brand raped a woman in a hotel room after meeting her at the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth in 1999, prior to achieving mainstream fame.

Additional charges involve an MTV worker who stated Brand tried to drag her into a workplace toilet before she broke free, and another MTV worker who alleged Brand groped her breasts and forced her into oral sex inside a Soho bar toilet. Further accusations involve a radio worker in 2005, a Channel 4 staffer in 2009, and a 21-year-old fan who alleged she was raped in 2009 following a stand-up performance at the Hammersmith Apollo.
Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. The legal proceedings at Southwark Crown Court continue as the defense and prosecution present evidence regarding events spanning a decade of the entertainer’s career.
