## Karnataka High Court Allows RSS Route March in Chittapur with Participant Limit
The Karnataka High Court’s Kalaburagi Bench has authorized the rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to conduct its Path Sanchalan (route march) in Chittapur, Kalaburagi district, on November 16, between 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm.
The court’s decision followed a petition by the RSS challenging the district administration’s initial approval, which limited participation to 300 members, despite the association’s request for 850. Advocate Arun Shyam, representing the RSS, argued for a minimum of 600 participants.
Justice MGS Kamal, after considering the plea, permitted the procession to proceed with 300 uniformed participants and an additional 50 band members, instructing authorities to ensure the event’s smooth facilitation as scheduled.
The legal challenge arose after the district administration initially denied permission for the route march on October 19,citing concerns about potential disruptions to peace and law and order in Chittapur, the constituency of minister Priyank Kharge. Following the denial, the High Court on October 30 directed RSS convenor Ashok Patil to meet with district authorities on November 5 at the Advocate General’s office to discuss event logistics. The administration subsequently granted permission with restrictions, prompting the RSS to seek judicial review.
Minister Priyank Kharge has publicly criticized the RSS and previously called for a ban on its activities. He recently questioned the organization’s operation without formal registration, asking why the RSS cannot register and operate with the same transparency and accountability as other NGOs.
