Ronda Rousey to AEW: No Contract Signed After Revolution Debut

March 22, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Ronda Rousey’s surprise appearance at All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) Revolution pay-per-view on Sunday has generated significant buzz, but the former UFC champion has not signed a contract with the promotion, according to a new report from Fightful Select.

Rousey appeared at the event in Los Angeles following a match between Toni Storm and Marina Shafir, confronting Storm in the ring and engaging in a tense face-off before being separated by security. Shafir then attacked Storm, capitalizing on the chaos. The appearance, which occurred nearly three years after Rousey’s final WWE match, fueled speculation about a potential full-time role with AEW.

Whereas, sources cited by Fightful Select indicate that Rousey’s appearance was not predicated on a signed agreement. The report suggests that AEW was aiming for a heel (villainous) reaction from the crowd, and Rousey’s appearance largely achieved that goal, though she may have anticipated a different response from the audience.

The unexpected move has reportedly drawn a negative reaction from within TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of both WWE and the UFC. Sources within TKO expressed surprise at Rousey’s involvement with a rival promotion, and believe she is actively seeking distance from the company following disputes related to her upcoming MMA fight with Gina Carano.

Rousey is currently scheduled to return to mixed martial arts on May 16, 2026, in a bout against Carano under the Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) banner. During a recent press conference promoting the fight, Rousey criticized the UFC as prioritizing “short-term greed” and failing to adequately support its athletes, stating, “They’re bleeding talent because of their short-term greed. They’re thinking about the next quarter. They’re thinking about the shareholders and not thinking about their responsibility to be stewards of the future of the sport.”

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, plans for Rousey in AEW, if any, are likely to be put on hold until after her MMA fight. Meltzer speculated that AEW might utilize Rousey in a limited capacity, primarily to promote the Carano bout through television appearances. He also noted that Rousey’s training commitments for the MMA fight likely preclude a regular role with AEW.

The logistical convenience of Rousey’s location at the time of Revolution – she was already in the Los Angeles area – also played a role in her appearance. As of now, AEW has not announced any concrete plans for Rousey beyond her initial appearance. Tony Khan, the owner of AEW, has remained publicly silent regarding Rousey’s future with the promotion.
