Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly attempting to influence Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes to join Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, offering a substantial financial package to secure the Brazilian’s services. The move comes as Arsenal also expresses strong interest in acquiring the 24-year-old, according to multiple reports.
Al Nassr has “launched an assault” on Rodrygo, approaching his representatives with what is described as a “blank cheque” offer, according to Sky Sport Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri. Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al Nassr, is personally advocating for Rodrygo’s signing, believing the Real Madrid player would significantly strengthen the team’s attack.
While Rodrygo has a contract with Real Madrid until June 2028, speculation about his future has increased. Reports in Spanish media suggest he was unhappy under former manager Carlo Ancelotti last season, though the arrival of Xabi Alonso as manager has not necessarily solidified his position. Alonso has not consistently utilized Rodrygo during the ongoing 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite the lucrative offer from Al Nassr, sources indicate Rodrygo would prefer a move to the Premier League if he were to leave Real Madrid, with Arsenal currently positioned as the most likely destination. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are actively pursuing the Brazilian, but face a significant challenge from Ronaldo’s influence and the financial power of the Saudi club.
Rodrygo’s connection to Real Madrid runs deep, stemming from childhood admiration fueled by the club’s success and, crucially, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. He revealed in an interview with Diario AS that watching Ronaldo play for Real Madrid was a key factor in his affection for the club, stating he would “devour every Real Madrid match just to watch him.” He even owned a kid-size Real Madrid shirt given to him by his father after a trip to Germany, identifying with the team and its achievements from a young age.
Rodrygo joined Real Madrid from Santos in 2019 for a €45 million fee and has since won LaLiga three times, the Copa del Rey once and the Champions League twice. Real Madrid may be open to a sale for a fee in the range of $80–90 million, according to reports. As of now, a final decision has not been made, and negotiations are expected to intensify during the summer transfer window.
