Rod Stewart feels brilliant after coronary stent procedure
Rod Stewart is recovering from an August coronary stent procedure by swimming 400 meters and planning a final farewell tour for 2027, following health setbacks that forced him to cancel his North American dates earlier this year.
Rod Stewart Reports Feeling Brilliant After Medical Recovery
The 81-year-old rock legend offered an upbeat assessment of his physical condition while attending a charity gala performance of Sinatra the Musical at London’s Aldwych Theatre on October 15. Asked by The Daily Mail how he was feeling after his medical procedure, Stewart exclaimed, “F–king brilliant! I swam 400 meters [just over 1300 feet] the other day.”
Stewart’s medical recovery followed a series of health complications earlier in the year. In June, he experienced a frightening moment onstage in Utah where he nearly fainted and required oxygen, and he later canceled a concert one hour before showtime due to an acute upper respiratory infection. In August, doctors discovered a slight blockage that required a coronary stent procedure, leading to the cancellation of the remaining dates on his North American tour on doctor’s orders.
Penny Lancaster discussed the health scare on the At Home with Vanessa podcast, noting that the underlying heart issue had not been known during his earlier difficulties. “They detected a slight blockage which needed a stent,” Lancaster said, adding that Stewart’s loved ones and medical team were closely monitoring his recovery. “Between me and my brother, his trainer, and doctors and everyone, you know, we’re not letting him get away with it … he has to do as he’s told,” she said with a laugh.
Stewart Announces Final Rock and Roll Tour for 2027
Stewart announced plans to return to the live stage next year for his final tour, with dates scheduled from April through July 2027. On September 28, the singer shared an Instagram announcement regarding the upcoming slate of concerts, calling it his “last tour ever, ever, ever,” while clarifying that he is not stepping away from music completely.
“I’m not retiring, but this will be the last rock and roll tour,” Stewart told fans in his September announcement. The planned dates cover the United States, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and mainland Europe.
Lancaster reaffirmed during their appearance in London that her husband has no intention of stopping his creative output entirely. “He’s going to be touring until 2028 doing the rock n’ roll and then he changes direction to the Great American Songbook,” she said.
