Rockstar Reveals Six GTA 6 Radio Stations and First In-Game Podcasts
Rockstar Unveils Six GTA 6 Radio Stations and First In-Game Podcasts
Grand Theft Auto VI will feature the biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio yet, alongside the franchise’s first on-demand podcasts, according to a Rockstar Newswire announcement published on October 8, gHacks reported.
The Tech TL;DR:
- GTA 6 introduces six newly revealed radio stations and the series’ first-ever on-demand podcasts available both in vehicles and on foot.
- Players can listen to audio via new headphones and earbuds connected to the characters’ smartphones while exploring or during combat.
- The game launches on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X&S, with previews currently available on the Rockstar Games website.
Lineup of Stations, Hosts, and Featured Artists
Every station revealed in the October announcement features two hosts, with Rockstar casting well-known artists for most roles. El Martillo, featuring voice acting by Bad Bunny, and La Gata, with vocals by RaiNao, host the modern Latin station. It covers bachata, merengue, dembow, and reggaeton, and includes Bad Bunny’s track EoO. Back Country Radio plays renegade country, hosted by MW, voiced by Morgan Wallen, and Delta Dawne, voiced by Lana Del Rey, alongside roving reporter Mud Dog Mike, voiced by Jeremy Dufrene. That station’s playlist features Loretta Lynn and David Allan Coe.
AfroBank FM features Burna, voiced by Burna Boy, and Palmsy, voiced by Palms Trax, playing African music ranging from 20th-century classics to amapiano and 3-step. The classic metal station, Chamber 106.6, is hosted by DJ Kerry, voiced by Kerry King, and DJ Tom, voiced by Tom Araya, with music from Black Sabbath, Pantera, and Slayer. Flash FM returns as the Vice City pop station hosted by Robyn and Alex Consani, playing Charli xcx, MGMT, and Zara Larsson with PinkPantheress. Dirty South Classics covers regional rap and hip-hop with Trick Daddy and Trina, featuring tracks from David Banner, JT Money, and DJ Khaled.
On-Foot Audio Playback and Podcast Integration
The addition of on-demand podcasts marks a major structural change for the franchise. Grand Theft Auto VI brings a collection of on-demand podcasts for Jason and Lucia to listen to outside of Leonida’s regular broadcast radio, marking a series first according to Rockstar. Characters can stream these podcasts and radio broadcasts either inside vehicles or while walking around using new earbuds and headphones linked to their smartphones. In previous installments of Grand Theft Auto, radio playback was strictly confined to vehicles and select buildings. The new on-foot option allows players to keep music or a podcast running while exploring the game world or engaging in combat.
Rockstar Releases Screenshots and Music Details Before November Launch
Alongside the radio reveal, Rockstar released a batch of new official screenshots. In September, the studio confirmed a separate album of original music made for GTA 6 featuring songs from Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen, and Keith Richards, though the full tracklist for that release has not yet been published. Ahead of these music details, Rockstar recently noted that completing story missions in GTA 6 will necessitate gathering funds. The six station previews are available on the Rockstar Games website now ahead of the game’s November 19 launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X&S. Rockstar has not yet indicated whether it will reveal the complete station list before release day.
