Robert Downey Jr. Defends Gwyneth Paltrow, Calls Critics “Dingbats” at THR Women in Entertainment gala

LOS ANGELES, Feb.8, 2024 – Robert Downey Jr. delivered a spirited and humorous tribute to gwyneth Paltrow at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment breakfast on Wednesday,playfully defending her against criticism and praising her resilience during her recent ski trial. the actor’s remarks,delivered before Paltrow took the stage,quickly became a highlight of the event,drawing laughter and applause from the audience.

Downey Jr. addressed Paltrow’s frequently enough “polarizing public persona,” asserting that the term is “a word used by dingbats to falsely describe powerful women who demonstrate decades of irrefutable relevance and reinvention.” He continued, highlighting Paltrow’s willingness to confront her accuser in court over an alleged injury at a Deer Valley ski resort, and lauded her “moral strength, intestinal fortitude, not to mention her impeccably tasteful, civil suit chic-yet-practical courtroom attire.”

the Oppenheimer star concluded his tribute with an excited shout: “It’s time to recognize … gwyneth fuggin’ Paltrow.”

The breakfast, hosted by Rachel Sennott, also featured speakers Dakota Johnson, Regina Hall, Chase infiniti, Sarah Paulson, Goldie Hawn, Jimmy Kimmel, and Molly McNearney. Jennifer Lopez received the Equity in Entertainment award, presented by Kerry Washington.
