Pedestrian Vehicle Incident Reported in Riga

A vehicle struck a pedestrian at a public transport stop on Prūšu Street 17 in riga on July 20,around 8:40 p.m., according to LETA. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Road Safety Trends and Statistics

The incident in Riga occurred amidst a broader pattern of road traffic accidents. Last night,80 road traffic accidents were recorded nationwide,resulting in 22 injuries across 16 crashes. Vulnerable road users, including two pedestrians, five cyclists, and one electric scooter driver, were among those injured.

In a separate incident on Sunday afternoon, a car collision on the Sigulda County Road P10 required the intervention of the State Fire and Rescue Service. Rescuers utilized hydraulic tools to free one individual from a vehicle, who was then transferred to emergency medical services. Four other victims had exited their vehicle independently. Firefighters also disconnected vehicle batteries and managed the scene, concluding their work at 9:45 p.m.

Law enforcement efforts continue to address impaired driving. Three individuals are facing prosecution for driving under the influence of alcohol, while four others are being held criminally liable. Additionally, one driver was apprehended for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs, which also carries criminal penalties.

Enforcement actions also targeted traffic violations, with 243 administrative violation processes initiated for speeding and one for aggressive driving throughout the day.
