Adventure Cycling Association has shifted its digital route offerings, now exclusively distributing routes through Ride with GPS, a platform popular among cyclists for its navigation tools. The move marks a strategic change for the non-profit organization, aiming to increase accessibility to its curated routes across the United States.
Previously, Adventure Cycling sold both GPX data files and routes within its own Bicycle Route Navigator App. As of February 27, 2026, the sale of GPX data has been discontinued, and the Bicycle Route Navigator App will no longer be supported after September 30, 2025. Users who have previously purchased routes within the Bicycle Route Navigator App will continue to have access until that date, according to the organization.
The partnership with Ride with GPS allows Adventure Cycling to leverage the platform’s features, including audio turn cues and compatibility with popular bike computers like Garmin and Wahoo. Ride with GPS as well enables users to easily download routes for offline leverage. According to Ride with GPS’s help center, routes can be sent directly to compatible devices via the mobile app with a few taps.
Adventure Cycling’s Digital Routes, available through Ride with GPS Experiences, are designed to replicate the features of the organization’s printed maps while adding digital navigation capabilities. The organization emphasizes that these are data-driven maps overlaid on the Ride with GPS platform, rather than simple PDF maps.
Adventure Cycling acknowledges that route conditions can change over time and advises users to exercise good judgment and adhere to all traffic laws while cycling. The organization also includes a disclaimer stating that cycling carries inherent risks, and users assume full responsibility for any potential injuries or death. The association requests that users report any inaccuracies or safety concerns encountered while using the routes.
Garmin provides multiple methods for importing routes from Ride with GPS, including automatically linking Garmin Connect accounts and utilizing the Ride with GPS Connect IQ app. Pedalthecause.org provides instructions for downloading routes from Ride with GPS to Garmin or similar devices, directing users to the “More” button within the Ride with GPS interface to export routes as files.
