A young girl was killed and four others injured in a shooting at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, during a high school hockey game Monday afternoon, according to the Pawtucket mayor’s office.

The shooting occurred during a game between the Coventry-Johnston co-op team and the St. Raphael-Providence Country Day-North Providence-North Smithfield co-op, officials said. The mayor’s office confirmed the shooter is deceased and that police are not seeking additional suspects.

Emergency crews responded to the arena on Andrew D. Ferland Way shortly before 3:00 p.m. Local time. St. Raphael Academy released a statement indicating that, to their knowledge, no students from their school were injured in the incident.

Details regarding the condition of the injured remain limited. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim who died, nor have they provided information about the nature of the injuries sustained by the four others.

The incident prompted a significant police presence at the arena, and a nearby Walgreens was briefly evacuated after individuals who had been at the rink sought assistance, according to reports. Coventry’s superintendent sent an email to the school community stating that students were secured in multiple locations and that the school was actively working with event staff and local authorities to understand the situation.

As of late Monday, the Pawtucket Police Department had not released a statement detailing the events leading up to the shooting or a potential motive. The investigation is ongoing.
