reza Rahadian‘s ‘On Your Lap’ Sweeps Busan Vision Awards
BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA – Indonesian actor-turned-director Reza Rahadian’s debut feature, “On Your Lap,” has emerged as the major winner at the Busan International Film Festival’s Vision Awards, securing the KB Vision Audience Award, Fipresci Award, Bishkek International Film Festival’s Central Asia Cinema Award, and the Face of the Future Award. The unprecedented haul signals a important breakthrough for Rahadian and Indonesian cinema on the international stage.
The Busan Vision Awards, presented annually, recognize emerging talent and innovative filmmaking. Rahadian’s success underscores a growing global interest in Southeast Asian cinema and provides a platform for further distribution and recognition of “On Your Lap.” the awards are expected to boost Rahadian’s career and possibly open doors for wider international collaborations.
Beyond Rahadian’s triumph, several other films garnered multiple accolades.TRIBNY RAIKS’s “Shape of Momo” received both the Songwon Vision Award and Taipei Film Commission Award. Natalia Uvarova’s “Malika” was honored with the Netpac Award, while “Kurak,” directed by Erke Dzhumakmatova and Emil Atageldiev, shared recognition with the Bangladesh July Memorial Prize and Vision of Jiseok Award.
The Hylife Vision Award went to both Anshul Chauhan’s ”Tiger” and Sanju Surendran’s “If on a Winter’s Night.” Shahram Mokri’s “black rabbit, White Rabbit” earned the International Film Festival of India’s Vision asia Award.
In the acting categories, Lee Seung-yeon was recognized as actor of the year for “The Gorals,” and Moon Woo-jin received the same honor for his performance in “The Accordion Door.” Korean cinema also saw strong portrayal, with Jeong Seung-o’s “Coming of Age” claiming the DGK Plus M Award and Songwon Citizen Critics’ Award, and Kim Jinyu’s “Journey There” taking home the DGK Plus M award and KBS Independent Film Award.
Additional awards included the CGV Award for Lee Kwang-kuk’s “Beautiful Dreamer,” the Cine21 Award for Son Kyeong-su’s “The Accordion Door,” and the critic b Award for Lim Junghwan’s “The Observer’s Journal.” Vivek Chaudhary’s “I,Poppy” won the Busan Cinephile Award,Wang Mincheol’s “Where We Stay for a While” took the Documentary Audience Award,and Frederik Sølberg’s “Hana Korea” claimed the Flash Forward Audience Award.
