Teh Grammy-winning soprano singer Renée Fleming has canceled her scheduled performances at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. she joins a growing number of musicians who have moved away from the institution, following President Donald Trump’s involvement.
Fleming’s decision follows her resignation last year as Artistic Advisor-at-Large, a role she held for nine years starting in 2016, after the shake-ups at the Kennedy Center, including the departures of Chair David Rubenstein and President Deborah Rutter.She has a long history with the center, having performed there 25 times “in various capacities,” according to the Kennedy Center’s website.
Fleming was scheduled to perform in May.
