Renault Espace F1, the Wild Concept car, Races into Gran Turismo 7
Polyphony Digital is adding a truly unique vehicle to Gran Turismo 7: the Renault Espace F1. The one-off concept car, originally unveiled in 1995, will be available for players to experience its extreme performance in the racing simulator. The addition arrives as part of a free update for the game.
The Espace F1 was conceived as a publicity stunt, showcasing Renault’s engineering prowess by fitting a Formula 1 engine into the chassis of a family minivan. Powered by a 3.5-liter V10 engine derived from the Williams-Renault F1 team, the vehicle boasts over 800 horsepower and a top speed exceeding 217 mph (350 km/h). Its creation involved significant modifications to the Espace’s structure, including a steel roll cage and a carbon fiber body, resulting in a drastically lowered ride height and aggressive aesthetic.
Originally commissioned by Renault to demonstrate the brand’s technological capabilities, the Espace F1 was driven by former F1 driver Alain Prost during a demonstration lap at the 1995 Spanish Grand Prix. The vehicle has since become a legendary piece of automotive history, celebrated for its audacious design and improbable combination of practicality and extreme performance. Gran Turismo 7 players will soon be able to virtually pilot this automotive oddity, experiencing its unique handling characteristics and blistering speed.
